Where To Start In The Bible

There are many wonderful places we could start in the Bible. I*ll suggest the Gospel of John. I must confess it was not where I started.

John 1:11: He came unto his own, and his own received him not. 12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: 13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. 14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

It will be helpful to know who the Word in verse 14 was before He was made flesh. He was God the Son and the Son of God. The Word is Jesus. He was, is and will always be the same. We must know that He is The One that we must receive.

Hebrews 13:8: Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

John 1:1: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

In the beginning was the Word speaks of Jesus* eternality. The Word was with God means that He was in all eternity past with The Father and The Holy Spirit. The Word was God means He was God.

The gospel of Matthew teaches about Jesus from perspective that He is a King. It gives His ancestry that gives Him the right to be the King of Israel. And, of course, we want Him to be the King of our lives. The Gospel of Mark teaches about Jesus from the perspective that He is a servant. He served us by creating the world for us, by creating us, by dying for us, by offering Himself to us, by making us new creatures, guiding us through this life and will one day serve us by taking us to Heaven. The Gospel of Luke teaches about Jesus from the perspective that He is a man, a sinless man. If He had any sin of His own, His death would have been just like that of any other sinner. He would have died and gone to Hell. Because He was sinless his death could be the payment for our sin. He willingly took upon Himself the death that we deserve so that we might have the life He deserves in Heaven. Matthew, Mark or Luke are good places to start in the Bible but I believe the book of John is better.

Romans 3:23: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Romans 6:23: For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Romans 5:8: But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

1 John 2:2: And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

John 20:30: And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: 31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.
